In the final pre-pandemic year, a skateboarding video was released that, whether recognized or not, changed the game. Concepts never seen in a video project were utilized for the first time, and the quality of skateboarding backed them all up.

Each magazine had its nuances, and a singular vision, yet one thing they sadly now have in common is that they all cease to be. Media consumption and times change, publishing houses had to cut costs and – at different points in time – our favourite editorial teams all took a hit. This downturn isn’t exclusively English. Slam proudly stocked copies of every skateboard magazine we could get our hands on and their delivery meant work stopped for a bit as we flicked through their pages.

To improve the proven Vans Pro Classics models, such as Authentic, Era, Old Skool, Sk8- Hi or Slip-On, a lot of thoughts went into the project in Costa Mesa. Together with the design & skate team they tried to design shoes that have the familiar look of Vans Classics, but ensure the durability and performance of modern skate shoes.

In addition to new design accents, a lot has changed technically – the Waffle Sole 2.0, a new DURACAP, the higher, double foxing tape and the new tongue straps make a noticeable difference, so far so good. Even if the silhouettes have remained largely the same – inside the shoes, a lot of things have changed. The improvements made are not only noticeable in terms of fit and board feel – a particular concern was also to make the shoes more durable and long-lasting.
